Branding + Social Media 101

Recently, a brand in Italy that aims to expand to the US market asked for a branding and social media consultation. This was a brand with plenty of loyal customers, over 600+ likes on facebook, even with no instagram presence, low quality photos, and no other online marketing presence.

With a few extra steps, this brand with so much potential behind it, could maximize their loyal clientele and use that solid foundation for an even better brand experience. Here are some of the recommendations I suggested for their brand.

1) Create Brand Identity & Consistency

Have a very specific idea of what you want your brand or organization to be about. Create your brand elevator pitch, how you want your brand to make others feel, your targeted keywords, your fonts, your color palette, your ideal consumers, and your mission statement. Make sure your targeted keywords are in your mission statement for SEO purposes.

2) Create Your Aesthetic & Create Original Content

Once you have your brand identity clearer, create a mood board for your brand and hire a photographer who can help create content for your platforms. Original content is a must. Taking iphone photos of clothes on a rack or iphone photos of your nonprofit's work will not get the engagement or interest you need for your brand. Also, hire a social media consultant if you don't have time to update consistently. People won't take your brand seriously if your content is of low-quality and your posts are inconsistent.

3) SEO, SEO, SEO!
They haven't even created a website yet, which is actually better for them when considering SEO. I emphasized consulting about targeted keywords to ensure that from the start, the website is SEO-optimized so that google makes their website easier to find.  If you have been using your website for years and never used SEO, I highly suggest hiring a professional to optimize all of your website content.

4) Offer a newsletter

You have to have a newsletter. It's a direct line of communication for those who truly want to hear from your brand. It's a way to entice people with discounts or special offers, share your original content, inform, and keep your audience up to date. Make a newsletter a priority, but only send one out 1-2 a month to avoid coming off as spammy.

5) Optimize your social media profiles
Are you making the most of your social media presence? Make sure you are using Instagram's hashtag option in the bio. Make sure your bio is clear and represents your brand well. Don't use hashtags in facebook. Optimize the timing of your posts according to your audience. SEO optimize your instagram name so you are easily searchable. Make sure your bio descriptions are clear and that there is always a website link. This is just a start on the musts of social media, so if you are unaware of the rapidly changing world of social media, I highly suggest to hire a consultation or someone to do your social media for you.

If you want retailers, investors, funders, or your targeted audience to take your brand seriously, you must invest in these basic things. Once you have all of the basics of your brand down, you can start PR outreach and the possibilities are endless! Here are 4 Public Relations Strategies for those who don't know where to start.
